Ukraine is the bigest state in Eastern Europe, bordering Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Moldova, Russia and Belarus. Its population is about 45 million people.Ukraine is the largest among the countries that are completely within the borders of Europe, the area of Ukraine is 603.7 thousand km2.
Ukraine has access to two seas – the Black Sea and Azov Sea. The main waterway is the river Dnieper.
As an independent state Ukraine is quite young – it became independent on August 24, 1991.

President is the head of the state. He is elected by the citizens of Ukraine on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot for a term of 5 years and not more than two consecutive terms. The only legislative body is the Parliament – the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The highest authority in the system of executive power is the Cabinet of Ministers.
